Artist Pic

Desiré Craig was born and raised in South Africa and immigrated to the United States in 2001 as a newly wed. For as long as she can remember, she dreamed of being able to 'capture color'. In the early 90's her love for color, textures and paper personalities, led to a discovery of an 18th century art form, Decoupage - and her artistic journey began.

Her studio is filled to the brim with papers from around the world and she is particularly drawn to fine Italian and Japanese papers, which are used extensively in her work. Her work is usually detailed simplicity, using classical lines and elegant design. Attention to detail and superior finishing are her trademarks. This self-taught artist mentors and teaches both traditional and modern decoupage techniques and design.

Desiré's works are usually one-of-a-kind pieces. Her work can be found on an array of surfaces used to create functional art pieces. Wood, glass and most recently, gourds, have found themselves transformed using decoupage techniques. Her work is exhibited and sold at art and gallery shows and she has completed commissions both in South Africa and the USA.
